Funded by Alistair Harvey Foundation and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, academically bright and talented VTC students were awarded scholarships to pursue further education in the United Kingdom. Studying aboard is not only an academic experience, but also a comprehensive cultural experience. In order to assist alumni to further adapt to local life and culture, we offer the opportunity for the scholarship awardees, Zach, Jason and Mannie, to visit Ms Agnes Ng, the VTC Alumni Ambassador living in Meopham, for a warmly 3 days 2 nights homestay event, to venture into the British historic landmarks and greenery of the countryside, as well as to experience the British culture.
The event was held from 28 to 30 April 2023. Ms Ng, as a gracious host, led the alumni to visit local historic landmarks, including the Grade I listed ancient church, the medieval church, the 17th century pub and the magnificent ancient castle. They also ventured through the cricket and country park, enjoyed street dance performances with festive atmosphere, walked through the distinctive Car Boot Fair, tasted local cuisine, and more. Ms Ng also introduced the alumni to different local friends, visited their homes, exchanged cultural experiences, and enjoyed the pleasures of gardening. One of the British couples showed the alumni their self-designed beautiful pond and conducted a French workshop in their cozy sitting room.
The alumni enjoyed and benefited a lot from this cultural enriching trip, in which such valuable experiences are nowhere to be found in the classroom. They expressed their sincere gratitude to VTC for the arrangement and a special thanks to the Alumni Ambassador for her warm hospitality.
