In an effort to protect the environment and achieve sustainable development, many people are getting used to waste reduction and recycling. Some companies take a step forward to promote upcycling, which means transforming discarded material into new products, thus creating new value for their lives. DOSHA Woodcraft, a social enterprise, is one of the advocates and practitioners.
The co-founders of the company, Oliver, Herry & Sammi are graduates of the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Product Design from THEi. They were tasked to design & tailor make furniture for subdivided flat residents back then, and they noticed that hundreds of tons of wood are discarded daily in Hong Kong, so they collected wasted wood, designed and made furniture for the project, and the beneficiaries were grateful for their care. This experience inspired them to establish their own social enterprise by giving proper treatments to the recycled wasted woods, redesigning and upcycling the woods into products of wood crafting. With their mission, they were granted HKD 200,000 as seed funding for business development by THEi Innov8 Enterprise Start-up Programme, which has laid a strong foundation for them.
DOSHA Woodcraft had thrived in the past 4 years. They continue to expand their business by running pop-up stores, and collaborating with schools & NGOs for crafting workshops etc., in a hope to realise their aspiration to promote eco-friendly wood resources and community care.
